Happy Clients

Review from Pauline G (Daughter of Resident) published on 27 October 2020

My mum has been a resident in La Luz for a couple of years and is happy there. The recent change of management has really taken the home to another level. The mental health of the residents has really been of paramount importance - regular activities including art, puzzles, dance and even a fashion show keep the spirits of residents lifted. My mum has been so much happier with her days filled with fun. Communication has been brilliant in these difficult covid times when I can’t visit and live so far away. Facebook films helping family feel part of their life and FaceTime calls organised by staff really lift mum’s spirits and mine too. This home is top of my list for anyone needing to know their family are being well cared for. Great peace of mind if your family are part of La Luz.

Mum, initially, went into La Luz for respite care in August, but it quickly became evident that she now needed 24-hour care. Mum settled in really quickly, but the more I got to know the Owner/Manager and staff, I shouldn't have been surprised. Residents are part of their wider family and treated as such with the care and dignity that I was used to giving.
Mum is really happy, feeling at home, which is a real comfort to me being her main carer for many years. It was absolutely the right choice for her, as it is relatively small, compared to other local care homes, and has a real homely feel suiting Mum to a T. Although small, her room has the essentials and, more importantly, staff on hand able to quickly see to her needs.
Having Dementia/Alzheimer's, regular activities give her stimulation. There are times when she feels tired and not feeling up to it, but has the choice of taking herself off to her room for her quiet time and rest. She loves the meals, so wouldn't stay too long!

My mum was a resident at La Luz for over a year but it was not an easy start for her as she had Alzheimer's and was virtually blind. The original management team looked after her well but Mum didn’t settle for a long time. With the change of management last autumn, came a change of medication and regime and the difference in her was apparent to all. From this point, Mum finally began to accept her new surroundings and was much calmer. She was actively encouraged to take part in the activities on offer. Mum sadly began to decline in the spring and the staff made this time as peaceful and calm as possible for both Mum and myself. For this, I cannot thank the team at La Luz enough. Mum passed away in June from Alzheimer's but I take comfort in the fact that in the last few months of her life, she was as well cared for as if she were a part of their family. They gave her the comfort and dignity that she deserved and for this, I will be forever grateful them.

I have been visiting a friend for a while. She is looked after very well, and the staff are kind and helpful. One of the staff accompanied her to a hospital appointment. There are activities provided every weekday morning which my friend enjoys. There were barbecues in the garden during the summer, and visits to the Cafe opposite. The room isn't very big but pleasant and has a washbasin. I would recommend people to La Luz. The manager is kind and very efficient. Nothing is too much trouble.

I stayed here for a respite period to gain confidence after my stroke recovery. I am pleased to say the staff are very caring and they treated me as a family member. I enjoyed the food and chatting to staff, and they helped me to walk again. The manager treats everyone as her family and it is a hard-working family who cares about everyone and everything. The food was very good and I enjoyed most of the items on the menu.

My mother was taken into La Luz as emergency respite at the beginning of lockdown, so was all very rushed and last minute, all I had to go on was how I felt about the contact over the phone which was exceptional. The Manager is so kind, caring and helpful nothing is a problem she made me feel at ease immediately. My mother is now a permanent resident due to her needing 24hr care and on speaking to her on the phone most days she always sounds happy and content which is a huge relief. On the times that I have visited all the residents are well presented and happy and all the precautions have been put in place to protect all against COVID. I can’t thank the Manager and the staff at La Luz enough.

My mother has been a resident for 20 months. Well, what can I say? La Luz is a wonderful place for my mum. She is very well looked after. Mum has come on so much since being at La Luz, she now manages to lots more for herself. Her walking has improved greatly. Her overall health has improved. The staff at La Luz are amazing. My siblings and I are very grateful to the staff at La Luz for taking such good care of our mum. We have seen so many changes at La Luz, which are great for the residents. The home is always clean, the residents always look very well cared for. La Luz have now introduced more activities which I know is great for Mum and the others residents. I was worried when we had to send Mum into residential care, I thought this would be so bad for her and to begin with I wondered if we had done the right thing, but she started to get much better. In Oct/Nov 2019 the home was taken over by new staff. Since the take over Mum has gone from strength to strength. Thanks.

I am staying here on respite care and I am really enjoying my stay. I am very well looked after and the home manager also helped me to look for a nursing home as I now require more nursing care. Food here is excellent and all treat me with respect and care. Even though my bedroom is small, it is fresh and clean always. The activities organised are entertaining and everyone gets involved in playing games, puzzles, quizzes etc. Due to my condition, I need to move into a nursing home otherwise I would like to have stayed here permanently.

I don't live anywhere near the care home, so most of my contact with my mum and the care home is done over the telephone. I have found the care home staff very helpful and are happy to answer any questions I have.
During this time of covid, I've been very happy with all the precautions the home have put in place to keep my mum safe when I have been able to visit.
Mum's room is quite small, but she has everything she needs in there.

Review from Jean B (Niece of Resident) published on 24 April 2020

My Aunt had been at La Luz for eight years but sadly died recently, not with Covid-19. During that time she had wonderful care by all the staff. For the most time, the owner/manager was another lady and recently there is a new owner/manager. My Aunt received wonderful care during all of this time. She was treated with the utmost dignity and respect and appeared very happy and content. The staff interacted well with the residents understanding some very varied and challenging issues. During her last days, unfortunately, owing to the social isolating required in care homes, we were unable to be with my Aunt. However, the Owner enabled me to video call and kept the family informed. She and the care staff comforted her until the end and for that our family is extremely grateful. I would highly recommend this small, friendly care home for your loved ones.
